How to see who is logged on locally in Windows

Sometimes you want’s to see who is logged into Windows on a remote computer.

There are several ways to do this. None of these methods will notify the logged on user in any way.

  1. If you are using Windows XP you can use remote assistance and connect to a computer and it will promt you wih the logged on user without notify the logged on user. Does not require local administrator privileges on remote computer.

  2. There is a tool from Sysinternals called PsLoggedon.exe that can be used from Windows XP and Windows 7. Does not require local administrator privileges on remote computer.
    PsLoggedon.exe \ComputerName

  3. A third way is to use WMI but then you must have local administrator privileges on the targeted computer.
    WMIC /Node:DATORNAMN ComputerSystem Get UserName
